NYSP & Local Law Enforcement Team Up for Lifesaver Weekend

BINGHAMTON, NY - The days leading up to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays are some of the busiest on our local highways. In order to ensure the safety of our local residents traveling during this holiday season, New York State Police, Broome County Sheriff Patrols and other law enforcement agencies, with the support of Broome County STOP-DWI, are teaming up for National Lifesaver Holiday Weekend. It is a stepped up education and law enforcement effort to try to keep people from drinking and driving.

Local law enforcement representatives joined together today for a news conference at the Troop C Substation in Kirkwood. They announced a combined effort that will include both saturation patrols and DWI checkpoints in Broome, Tioga and Otsego Counties. The effort will begin tonight at 12:01am and end at midnight on Sunday.

Everyone is being asked to take special care and obey the traffic laws by buckling up, not speeding and definitely not even think about getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking. Drivers are also being asked to report any reckless drivers by contacting their local law enforcement agency. If the situation is urgent, they should contact 911.
