Greater Binghamton Airport to Hold First Ever "Sunset Runway 5k"


(Binghamton, NY): The Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) is planning to host its first-ever ‘Sunset Runway 5K’ on Saturday, July 8th with registration beginning at 6:00pm. The event is a 5K walk/run on the Airport’s newly paved and re-opened runway.

The purpose of the race is to bring awareness to the Airport and the community it serves. The Sunset Runway 5K will provide Broome County residents with the opportunity to see the recent improvements at BGM in addition to promoting community involvement in a healthy manner. The race will take place in the evening so as to ensure cooler temperatures and the chance to witness the spectacular sunsets that take place up at The Greater Binghamton Airport.


“This event is really going to showcase the renovations made to our runway,” said Garnar. “I hope a lot of Broome County signs up to run with me.” 

The fee to register is $20 and can be done ahead of time on Walk-ups the day of the race are also welcomed. Those participating in the race will receive a commemorative t-shirt as well as official race timing included with their registration fee.

Food, refreshments, and beer will be for sale from Binghamton Brewing, Co. following the race.



Opened in 1951 as The Broome County Airport, The Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) has undergone several name changes over the years before receiving its most recent one in 2003. BGM serves the Southern Tier of New York and is located in Broome County. Currently, its two asphalt runways host flights to Detroit, MI three times per day via Delta Airlines.
