County Donates Proceeds from Sunset 5K to Twin Tiers Honor Flight

(TOWN OF MAINE, NY) Broome County Executive Jason Garnar joined David Hickling, Commissioner of Aviation, to present a check for $1,000 to the Twin Tiers Honor Flight program. The money being presented is the proceeds from the inaugural Greater Binghamton Airport Runway Sunset 5K held in July. Representatives from the Twin Tiers Honor Flight were at the check presentation to accept the donation.

“The first ever Greater Binghamton Airport Runway Sunset 5K was a tremendous success. We are proud to be donating the proceeds from this event to the Twin Tiers Honor Flight,” said Garnar.

The Twin Tiers Honor Flight program is a non-profit organization that provides veterans with a free flight and trip to the memorials in Washington, D.C. The organization recognizes veterans for their sacrifices and achievements by bringing them to see the memorials at no cost.

The Greater Binghamton Airport Runway Sunset 5K event was held in the evening on Saturday, July 8 on the Airport’s newly paved and reopened main runway. A $11 million renovation project was completed in May. The 5K gave runners and walkers the opportunity to see the completed work on the runway and enjoy a great view of the sunset that evening.
