Broome County Names New Acting Fire Coordinator

(Binghamton, NY) – Broome County Executive Jason Garnar has named Jeffrey Buckler as Acting Broome County Fire Coordinator effective September 25, 2017.

“When it comes to the safety of the residents of Broome County we want the absolute best,” said Garnar. “Jeff Buckler’s reputation, his experience and the recommendations we received made it an easy choice.”

Buckler is replacing current Broome County Fire Coordinator, Thomas J. Vroman.  His appointment was recommended by the Fire Advisory Board which is comprised of members of the Fire Chiefs Association and the Fire Fighters Association. The appointment will be up for confirmation by the Broome County Legislature in October.

"I've worked with Jeff Buckler through the fire service for over twenty years and know him to be both a dedicated volunteer fireman and an outstanding emergency services dispatcher," said County Legislator and Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee Chairman Scott Baker. "I'm pleased to support his appointment as Fire Coordinator and know he'll do a great job in this new role."

Buckler was raised in Harpursville, NY.  For 28 years, he has been a member of the Harpursville Fire Department where he currently serves as Chief.  He has been employed as a Broome County Fire Investigator for ten years as well as a member of the Broome County Fire Chief’s Association Board of Directors for ten years, serving as President for the past three years.  He has also been an EMT for the past 25 years.
